We begin this amazing journey into our learning curriculum on day 3, while the eyes and ears are still closed.  This early impression allows us to “awaken” the senses of smell with a variety of natural aromas.  Also, using gentle touch and movement gives us the ability to activate the neurological pathways in the brain.  This protocol is followed through day 16 until the eyes and ears have opened, as our little ones begin to leave their pod and become puppies toddling, interacting, eating, and eliminating on their own.  

In the third week, our focus is on sound exposure including thunderstorms, fireworks, sweepers, and many household items. These sounds are instrumental in providing an introductory foundation for the pups prior to the beginning of the fear period. This early intro to these scary sounds helps desensitize them and improves their response to unplanned exposures throughout their entire adult lives.   These small impressions at the appropriate learning stage leave lasting imprints for their entire life!  Additionally, this exposure to various stimuli, textures, and environments, aids in building confidence and adaptability.

As we crest the learning hump into the final 4 weeks our pups are continually given opportunities to expand their motor, social and emotional connections daily while in the outdoor puppy play zone.  During these weeks, our curriculum includes basic obedience training, interactive games that promote problem-solving skills, social interactions, and exposure to the outside world.  All this activity and growth stimulation requires a calm and soothing nighttime space, being cradled by classical music while they safely recharge their little bodies in preparation for a new day of learning!
